Hard Rock Bet has the right to legally offer online sports betting as the Florida Seminole Tribe legally won the U.S. Supreme Court on October 25, but this move is surprising.
In particular, the U.S. Supreme Court rejected attempts to block the implementation of the compact just less than a week after the Florida Seminole Tribe issued a press release in early December saying it planned to proceed with craps, roulette and sports betting based on gaming compacts signed and approved by the tribe and the state of Florida in 2021.
But nowhere else in the press release has provided that online sports betting is planned to resume, at least soon. That’s surprising as more legal process questions still remain at the state level over whether the U.S. Department of the Interior duly authorized the Indian Regulatory Gaming Act Convention signed by Gov. Ron DeSantis between Florida and the Seminole Tribe in 2021. There is a lot at stake regardless of how everything shakes. The Florida sports betting market could be worth $815 million conservatively in 2027, according to Eilers & Krejcik Gaming, considering Eilers & Krejcik’s forecast model that Hard Rock Bet will be the only operating brand discounting state monopoly. In addition, only Florida will gain 4.5% of the national market in 2027.
