The former Hollywood Casino, which was granted permission in August 2020 to move its gaming business to a land facility, began construction on an 85 million dollar new expansion project on August 10, 2021. The Queen of Baton Rouge, the city’s first land casino, opened to the public on Aug. 24, 2023. The existing riverboat casino was moved to an extended version of the atrium and the valet parking area was changed to an indoor space. Located near the Louisiana State Capitol and the Mississippi River, the new casino includes more than 100,000 square feet of casino space (62,000 square feet) and 6,000 square feet of conference and event space, including three multipurpose rooms.

The property’s parent company, Queen Casino & Entertainment, is moving another downtown river boat it owns onto land. Bell of Baton Rouge has begun a $100 million expansion and renovation that will move slot machines and table games to casino atrium, add restaurants and reopen 250-room hotels. The project is expected to be completed in the fall of 2024.
