“I will challenge myself next season.”
He won the BEST7 Men’s Outside Hitter award at the Dodram 2023-2024 V-League Awards Ceremony held at the Grand Ballroom of The K Hotel Seoul on August 8th. He switched between outside hitter, outside hitter and middle blocker this season before settling on outside hitter for the final season.
In 36 matches and 145 sets, she ranked eighth in scoring (544 points), fifth in attack (53.29% success rate), seventh in digs (0.228 per set), and earned her first career Best 7 trophy. After spending the off-season with the national team as an outside hitter, Heo returned to the team at the outside hitter position. Although she has played outside hitter before, she rarely played multiple positions in the early part of the season, switching between middle blocker and outside hitter.
The award came against stiff competition, but he was unfazed. “I think I got the opportunity because (I) Gyeongbok is in the same position, and (Jung) Jisuk couldn’t play all the matches this season due to injury. If I play OH next season, I will try to get the BEST7,” he vowed.
He wasn’t satisfied with his own performance either. “I would give myself a 60 out of 100,” Heo said, “I didn’t adapt to the OH position quickly enough at the beginning of the season, and I had a lot of regrets about my ball handling. I want to improve during the off-season and become a better outside hitter,” said Heo.
Hyundai Capital, which started the season ranked sixth, dramatically moved up to fourth place in the final match of the regular season and entered the semi-playoffs, the spring volleyball stage. “It’s very disappointing. “It’s a shame that we didn’t do well in the beginning of the season because we were a really good team, but what’s done is done. We won’t repeat our mistakes next season. We will prepare to go even higher next season,” he said, challenging himself to rebound.
Hyundai Capital will be working with Philippe Blanc, who will take over as the head coach of the Japanese men’s national volleyball team next season. “I admire him for taking the Japanese national team to the third place on the world stage. I still want to know what style of volleyball he wants to pursue, and I’m looking forward to learning as quickly as possible.”
