South Korean boxing heavyweight prospect Nam Chan-young (Daegu Chego) has secured a silver medal at the 2023 Asian Boxing Confederation (ASBC) Asian Youth Boxing Championships. Nam won a 5-0 decision over Muhammed Dirdiyev Mustaoa (Turkmenistan) in the men’s 92-kilogram semifinals on Jan. 1 at the Birlain Arena in Astana, Kazakhstan.
Nam has won gold medals at this year’s National Games, Association Championships, and Sectional Championships, and is considered to have the talent to be a top contender for the Korean boxing team in the heavyweight division. “I want to be selected for the national team and show good performance at the Asian Games or the Olympics,” Nam said after the match.
Kim Kyung-soo, former head coach of the Korean Boxing Association, was impressed with Nam’s performance, saying, “After losing the first and second rounds, he came back in the last round and gave all the boxers who participated in this tournament the confidence that they can do it.”
His teammates in the 51-kilogram category, Jin Jin-an (Gyungsang Gonggo), Kim Min-sung (Gyeongbuk Cheongdo), and Shin Min-seung (Gyungsang Gonggo), won bronze 스포츠토토존 medals in the 80-kilogram category.
