The Cleveland Cavaliers signed Donovan Mitchell to a three-year, $150.3 million contract extension, ESPN reported on Tuesday. It’s a max-level contract.
Mitchell, who started his career at Utah, was traded to Cleveland ahead of the 2022-2023 season. The addition of Mitchell capped off a rebuilding season for the Cavs, who made the playoffs for the second straight year.

Last season, Mitchell’s presence was still significant. He averaged 26.6 points, 5.1 rebounds, and 6.1 assists to help the team earn the top seed for the second straight year.

With a player option for the final year, the deal gives Mitchell the opportunity to sign a megatonic five-year, $380 million deal in 2027. ESPN reported that Mitchell’s confidence in president of basketball operations Kobe Altman’s vision to build the team into a championship contender was the driving force behind the deal.
