The South Korean men’s and women’s archery teams are on the verge of winning the team gold medal at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
The Korean women’s archery team, comprised of Lim Im-hyun (Korea Gymnastics University), Jeon Hoon-young (Incheon City Hall) and Nam Soo-hyun (Suncheon City Hall), defeated Japan 5-4 (57-56 56-58 58-52 53-56 <27-23>) in a shootout in the semifinals of the women’s recurve team event at the third edition of the 2024 Hyundai Archery World Cup in Antalya, Turkey, on Tuesday (Feb. 20).
The women’s team defeated home team Turkiye 6-2 (57-52 55-56 57-56 55-53) in the round of 16, and then defeated Germany 6-2 (57-52 55-56 57-56 55-53) in the quarterfinals.
The men’s team of Kim Woo-jin (Cheongju City), Lee Woo-seok (Kolon), and Kim Jeduk (Yecheon-gun) also reached the final after defeating Japan 5-4 (57-58 58-56 53-54 58-54 <30-27>) in a shootout in the semifinals of the recurve team event.
The men’s team was perfect in the round of 16 and quarterfinals, not dropping a single set against Canada (6-0) and the United States (6-0), respectively, and in the semifinal against Japan, three different players scored 10 points in a row in the shootout.
Both the men’s and women’s team finals on Wednesday will feature Korea and France.
The men’s and women’s individual competition will begin on Nov. 21.
The 18-23 event is the third World Cup of the year and the last international tournament before the Olympic Games begin in a month.
The Korean team is determined to finish first overall and “knock out the competition.
After the tournament, the team will return home for their final training.
Next month, the team will play a special match between the national teams on March 4 to get a feel for the game, and on March 28, the team will practice noise adaptation at the Jeonju World Cup Stadium in Jeonju, Jeollabuk-do, where they will play FC Seoul against Jeonbuk Hyundai in the professional soccer K League 1.
