Kim Joo-hyung has increased his hunger for the Presidents Cup trophy in men’s golf.
Kim’s international team lost the 2024 Presidents Cup at the Royal Montreal Golf Club in Montreal, Canada, on Tuesday (June 30) with a final score of 11.5-18.5 to the United States team.
It was the 10th consecutive time the International Team has lost the trophy. Their overall record is now 1 win, 1 draw, and 13 losses.
The Presidents Cup is a biennial men’s golf competition between the United States and the international teams, excluding Europe.
Kim earned 1.5 points for his team with one win, one draw and two losses over the four days.
In singles match play, he and Sam Burns split the points with a 0.5 victory.
Trailing by two holes, Kim took advantage of Burns’ bogey on the 13th (par-3) and birdied the 15th (par-4) to tie the match.
“I did the best I could and I’m proud of myself,” Kim said after the tournament, adding, ”I’m still hungry (for a win). I hope we can lift the trophy in the near future.”
“I’ve tasted the bitter taste of defeat many times, but you can’t win every time and you can’t lose every time,” Kim said, adding, ”I think we can create another result if we play our way. We don’t want to lose hope.”
“It was a different feeling trying to play alone without a partner. I realized why single match play is so hard,” he said, adding, ”I didn’t play well on the first nine holes, but when I saw my teammates playing hard and winning some points, I was able to pick myself up.”
Kim has been known for his wild celebrations during the tournament, roaring and jumping when he makes a good shot.
“The United States won, but Kim and Siwoo Kim stole the show,” PGA Tour.com wrote after the day’s play.
Kim Joo-hyung, who has a sore throat, said, “I may not be able to speak at all from tomorrow,” but added, “I will continue to cheer for the team.” 안전놀이터
